7 trends to try before summer dies

Now I don’t mean to alarm you but in just over a month, summer will be over (cue hysterical crying). The trees will lose their leaves, we won’t be heading to the beach as often, and we’ll subconsciously start adding a lightweight jacket into our everyday outfits.

So you still have time to experiment with summer’s hottest trends – especially the ones you love but haven’t been daring enough to try.

Here’s a selection that are fresh, fun, and so summery they just won’t feel right on a chilly day. So gather as much confidence as you can, and give one (or all) a go!

WHITE ON WHITE

I recently wrote an article on how to style this incredibly clean trend and gave a few outfit ideas for work, day and play (if you missed it, catch up HERE). There isn’t a trend that screams summer more, and it’s wearable for every shape, age and style. The best part? It’s sticking around for AW13 so you’ll get the added bones of value-for-money.

Witchery Textured Short $79.95

COLOURED SANDALS

Colour is still huge in stores, on everything from clothing to accessories. Sandals are no exception! Ditch your safe black and browns and add a pop of colour to your outfit with neon brights. They’re eye-catching, so check on that pedicure first.

Wittner Sabina Sandal $89.95

THE ONE-PIECE

By far the most popular of the swimwear styles of summer, the one-piece is a very welcome change to the skimpy bikini. Thanks to it becoming a massive trend, they’re also a lot less daggy and are available in a much more generous range for different bodies. Check out some of my favourites HERE.

Gorman Estella One-Piece $96

TROPICAL PRINTS

It has palm trees, sunsets and makes you feel like your sipping from a coconut on a Bali beach. What’s not to love about tropical prints?! They’ve hung around most of summer in everything from tailored trouser to body con dresses and are a must-try before summer dies!

Sportsgirl Sunset Printed Tee $9.95

STATEMENT SUNGLASSES

This summer, sunglasses contributed more to an outfit than simple UV protection – they’re part of your look now! Consider them like you would your shoes or bag, and look out for popular prints like leopard and floral. Cool shapes like cat-eye and OTT round are still very much in if your sunglasses need a shake-up, but prints are too much to bear.

Sass & Bide Tulua Sunglasses $229

NEOPRENE

What’s neoprene, I hear you ask? It refers to the thick, rubbery material found in wetsuits, that somehow made it’s way onto the fashion scene. Old news of the runways but only becoming really popular in mainstream fashion recently, it’s supportive, summer-appropriate and just a little bit scary.

Shona Joy @ David Jones Wild Things Zip Dress $112

CORAL LIPS

I love a bright lip, and this season it was all about coral! It’s more appropriate for daytime than red, more flattering, and not as bold (for those of you who don’t go near bright lips).

Inglot Cosmetics Lipstick Cream in #106 $27
