This week I found myself relaxing with a few Westfield fashion stylists, having educated discussions about fashion. After picking their brains, I couldn’t wait to share the conversation with you, mainly because everyone can follow and tweak these tips for a more stylish you, no matter your body shape, style, time or budget.
Alyce - For me, the number one investment piece every woman should buy this winter is a pair of wide-leg bottoms. Whether it’s jeans from Just Jeans for $79.95, or a chic pair of pants, you’ll flatter your body shape no matter what and channel the massive 70′s trend coming through too.
Jo – I think every woman should invest in a leather jacket this winter. Be on-trend in a gorgeous, structured jacket in camel or embrace the shearling trend and go for a fabulous fur-lined piece. For the mature woman, you can’t go past a classic black leather jacket. Style it up with a touch of lace or a long dress and printed scarf to create another stylish season look. *Check out Jeanswest who’s rocking the shearling leather jacket trend already, with a great fit to boot - Alyce
Donny – A good quality trench coat in camel or black is my pick. It’s an essential wardrobe item that you can wear dressed up or down. The belted waistline will show off the silhouette too! This winter, Portmans, Target and Witchery should have some great versions.
Tanja - I think a handbag is the best investment, as you’ll keep using it long after winter is over. My favourite is a brightly-coloured convertible handbag - a pop of cherry is perfect to brighten up your dark winter wardrobe. *Strandbags has a great option called the Bluebird Croc Buckle hobo for $39.95 – Alyce
Alyce - I want to know what the secret is for getting dressed fashionably everyday with only minutes to spare. I struggle on days that I have a million things to do, and have created a few staple outfits just in case, but what are your tips?
Jo - It’s all in the prep work! Declutter your wardrobe, make sure you can see every piece and it’s organised and if you love every single item you can create a stylish look in minutes every time! *Howards Storage World has loads of solutions for decluttering your wardrobe and organising your accessories, like the Over the Door Shoe Organiser for $20.95. Another little trick I like to use is pinning your earrings through a canvas you can decorate yourself from The Reject Shop – Alyce
Donny – Give your outfit a special touch by adding a statement accessory, always dress for your body shape and wear colours that suit your skin tone, and check your final outfit in a full length mirror before you head out the door.
Tanja – Add hosiery to lift your look, accessorise with a little bling and slick on some red lipstick to finish it off. *The lipstick I use to glamorise my look is Napoleon Perdis DeVine Goddess in Aphrodite – it smells delicious and lasts forever – Alyce
Alyce – Do you think there is the perfect outfit for every woman, that will help us save time too?
Jo – You can’t go past a pair of well cut jeans teamed back with a great singlet, layered with your favourite jacket or knit. Finish off with a sexy pair of boots and accessorise with a bold scarf. It’s comfy, cosy and can work for any shape. *Every winter Sportsgirl does some beautiful scarves, from silk printed to chunky knits, and this year is no exception! – Alyce
Donny – The perfect outfit is a crisp white shirt or blouse over well-fitted dark denim jeans and worn with a tailored black blazer. It’s chic, timeless and versatile. Inject your personality with a statement accessory or fabulous shoes. *Dotti is tapping into the tuxedo jacket trend at the moment (very Kim Kardashian) with lustred lapels. Make it your investment jacket by tailoring it to perfection at Looksmart Alterations – Alyce
Tanja - For AW11, I think a foolproof outfit will definitely be a well-cut blazer, funky scarf, wide-leg jeans and a chunky wedge or ballet flat – think 70′s chic.
Alyce - Sometimes a new winter wardrobe isn’t realistic (in our dreams!) so I plan on injecting the current season with a skinny leopard print belt from Valleygirl for $9.95, a belted draped scarf a la Jacqui E’s AW11 collection and a few pieces of jewellery from Equip inspired by 70′s opulence. What three accessories do you think we should buy to update our look and be on-trend?
Jo – I suggest going for a pair of new season boots in camel or with shearling detail, a gorgeous vintage-inspired piece of jewellery and a leather jacket to throw over your whole look. *For boots, check out Betts as they’ve just received their new season collection, complete with laces, shearling and a small but mighty heel you can wear during the day – Alyce
Donny – I agree that a fabulous pair of boots or wedges in camel, nude or black can stylise the simplest outfit – Payless Shoes have a great nude wedge for $69.95 at the moment. A statement necklace, bracelet or earrings from Diva and a cute leather or faux leather handbag will finish it off.
Tanja – For me, it’s a skinny snake skin belt from Sportscraft, a lace detail scarf from Jag and a cougar leather jacket from Jeanswest.
Alyce - If we remember only one piece of fashion advice to live by, what should it be?Â
Jo - It’s not just about fashion; it’s about style. Dress for your yourself and how you want to look. Clothes are there to make you look good and feel great!
Donny – You have the right to look amazing and feel fabulous no matter your shape, size, age or budget. Always shop for your body shape and remember, it’s not about how much you spend but how you wear it. If you get stuck, there are always Westfield stylists to give you a helping hand!
Tanja – Embrace colour, dress for the occasion, channel your personal style and don’t be scared to experiment and update your look!
Alyce -Â Well said! If I could give my own piece of advice, it would be set yourself weekly challenges. One day a week, try something you’ve always wanted to do, but have never been game enough. Tuesday, a slick of red lipstick. Thursday, a brightly-coloured blouse. Saturday? Might just be the day for that glitzy top…

Hi Alyce, i just voted and i see Statement Accessory has the neast number of votes. I know you have already posted a blog on Accessories, but i would like to see one which is more focused on current trends for accessories whether it be, tribal, bold colours, what shapes and sizes, especially with statement accessories. Accessories are always seen as how to finish a look, but often i like to wear basic coloured and designed clothes, and wear my accessories to be the most eye grabbing. It would be great to see scarf trends also. I like to wear basic jeans, sometimes ripped jeans with a plain black boobtube and a statment scarf and bangles.
Hi Shelly! You’re so right… with jeans a plain tee, statement accessories can completely make your clothes into a “look”. Also great to ssve on money! X
some great tips, nice to see colour making a comeback
Great to know I already own all the winter essentials mentioned by the stylists. But now what will I splurge on for winter?! LOL
